From its earliest days as the West Ham Infirmary to today as a busy modern teaching hospital, Whipps Cross has had an important place in our community.  The latest phase of redevelopment is a chance to capture stories of the hospital as it enters a new stage in its history. We invite you to put yourself in that picture.

Whipps Cross Voices will build upon previous community history projects and the existing hospital archives, and come up to date by filling gaps in what we know about the hospital, its staff, patients and community over the last 70 years. We are looking for people to share their stories, photos, letters or other items with us, adding new material to the archives held by Barts Health NHS Trust and enhancing what we know.  As well as creating new oral histories, we’re also aiming to make our existing collections more accessible by digitising photographs, and adding detail to our archive catalogue by identifying people and places in images.

Could this be you?

If you have ever worked at the hospital, if you work here now, or perhaps if you or a relative trained here, we’d love to hear from you.  Maybe Whipps is your local hospital for your care, or you have volunteered here, do you have memories to share with us?  Could you share your time with us to help at local events or would you like to learn new skills volunteering at the archives (located at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in West Smithfield)? Training will be provided, so don’t worry if you have never visited an archive or worked with historic collections.

If you are interested in being one of our Whipps Cross Voices contact us on and we'll be in touch.
