Whipps Cross Hospital in the 2000s
Forest Healthcare Trust was wound up in 2001, and a new Trust centred on Whipps Cross Hospital was formed in April 2001, called Whipps Cross University Hospital NHS Trust. This recognised the hospital's nursing teaching links with South Bank University and status as a 'hub' hospital partner with St Bartholomew's and The Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry.
The first centenary!
In 2003, the hospital celebrated 100 years since its opening as West Ham Union Infirmary, with an open day for staff and patients including staff in historic nursing uniforms, and a visit from the London Air Ambulance.
A new Energy Centre
Work began in 2004 on a new energy centre at the James Lane edge of the hospital site, to house IT servers and a new boiler house.
Systems in the centre are designed to be as efficient as possible, with waste heat from gas powered turbines being recovered to increase boiler efficiency.
