Nurse Training
There had been a nurse training school at Whipps Cross since the 1920s. In the 1940s a preliminary training school opened with accommodation in the former Wilfred Lawson Hotel in Woodford. Pupil nurses were introduced to the elements of nursing and subjects such as anatomy before starting work on the wards.

Two students are possibly from the religious order of the Little Sisters of the Poor; students from the same religious order trained at the hospital in most year's student intakes.

Whipps Cross Hospital Radio began in 1969, broadcasting to hard-wired bed units from wooden sheds on the hospital site. Volunteers broadcast for 3 hours on Sunday.

Margaret Centre
The centre opened in 1987 to provide palliative care for patients with life-limiting illnesses.

League of Friends
Initially set up to raise money for patient comforts, the League of Friends raised millions of pounds to support the hospital with vital equipment over more than 50 years. It celebrated its 40th anniversary in 1994.

University Hospital
A new Trust was formed in April 2001. It was called Whipps Cross University Hospital NHS Trust in recognition of the hospital's nursing teaching links with South Bank University and status as a 'hub' hospital partner with St Bartholomew's and The Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry.
